Seal Deterrent

Several DIDSON mounts were fabricated by Puntledge River (British Columbia, Canada) Hatchery staff for the 2008 Electrical Seal Deterrent trial. Two DIDSONs provided great information on Seal movement as well as juvenile migration (observed as schools) and adult Summer Chinook upstream migration. This "Miller Incline" mount used skateboard trucks (wheels & axles) mounted on aluminum plating. The guiding channel was fabricated to allow the "skateboard" to move freely up and down the incline using a boat winch. The mount used a 2-way swivel to allow them to angle and point the DIDSON as required. The second DIDSON (not pictured here) was mounted vertically on a concrete wall with the same set-up to raise & lower the Didson.
