Asian Carp

Asian Carp FlyingAsian Carp

Southern fish farmers put Asian filter-feeding Bighead and Silver Carp in their ponds to clean them. Floods in late 80s and early 90s allowed the carp to enter the Mississippi River. The population exploded and is removing food supply for indigenous fish as it expands upriver. The up to 3-ft Carp are spooked by boats and jump in the air, and sometimes land in a boat. A DIDSON movie of these carp show their reaction to starting an outboard motor.
